The Liftable pixel: what it records, and what it never records

A theme app embed on the storefront and a web pixel at checkout, under 30 kB, silent until the shopper consents. It records the steps a shopper took, never what they typed and never a video.

  • Reads and writes

What connecting it does for you

  • Evidence from your own shoppers instead of from a crawl: which pages they viewed, where they clicked, where they stopped, and which sessions ended in an order.
  • The estimate behind each opportunity, measured on your own sessions and order value rather than on category defaults.
  • The assignment of shoppers to the arms of a test, which only the storefront embed can do.

What Liftable reads

  • Pages viewed, clicks and the text of the element clicked, scroll depth, the names of form fields, performance timings and errors.
  • Add to cart, checkout started and checkout steps, from the checkout web pixel.
  • The referrer, so a session from an assistant (ChatGPT, Perplexity) can be labelled as such.

What Liftable can write

  • A cart attribute carrying the shopper’s test arm, so an order can be attributed to it. Nothing else.

What it never reads or does

  • What was typed into any field. Field names are recorded; values are not.
  • A recording or a video of the session. There is no replay in the product.
  • Anything before the shopper has consented to analytics: the embed asks Shopify’s Customer Privacy API first and sets no cookie until then.
  • A third-party call. The pixel talks to Liftable and to nothing else.

The permissions requested

  • Theme app embed (switched on in the theme editor)
  • Checkout web pixel (registered with write_pixels)

These are the permissions the connector asks the vendor for, as the vendor names them. The Connections page shows the same list on the row before you connect.

How to connect

  • Connect Shopify, then switch the Liftable app embed on in the theme editor; the Connections page gives you the deep link.
  • The checkout pixel is registered by install. Its health is whether the storefront embed has reported, because only the embed assigns a shopper to a test.

How often, and where the data lands

Events are received as they happen and rolled up per session. Raw pixel data is deleted after 90 days.

Questions

How heavy is it?

Under 30 kB gzipped, enforced by the build and by a test that fails above it. It loads after the page has drawn and makes no third-party calls.

Does it honour consent?

Yes. It asks Shopify’s Customer Privacy API before doing anything; until a shopper has consented to analytics it sets no cookie and sends nothing.

Can I see a recording of a session?

No. The product has no session replay. It shows the steps a session took, which is enough to see where it stopped and is a great deal less data to hold about a person.
