Liftable and Shopify: what install asks for, and what it can change

The nine permissions Liftable’s Shopify install requests, what each one is for, what is never requested (write_themes), and the two ways a change can reach a storefront: a theme app extension and Shopify Functions.

  • Status as of 6 October 2026
  • Reads and writes

What connecting it does for you

  • Your real orders, so an opportunity is estimated against your own revenue and a test is read on real purchases.
  • Your products, shipping profiles and discounts, so a drafted change (a delivery line, a threshold banner) is written from your own facts.
  • The two places a change can appear: Liftable’s theme app extension, which you switch on in the theme editor, and Shopify Functions for shipping and discount tests.

What Liftable reads

  • Orders: id, time, totals, discount codes, refunds and which side of a test the order was on. Not the customer’s name, email, phone number or address.
  • Products and variants, shipping profiles and rates, discounts, and the theme (to read it, never to write it).
  • Checkout events, through the checkout web pixel Liftable registers.

What Liftable can write

  • Register the checkout pixel (write_pixels).
  • A delivery customisation for a shipping test you have approved (write_delivery_customizations).
  • A discount function for a discount test you have approved (write_discounts).
  • Metafields that configure Liftable’s own theme app extension blocks, which is how a page change is shown without a theme file being written.

What it never reads or does

  • write_themes is never requested. Liftable never edits your theme’s code, live or duplicate: the App Store’s requirement 5.1.1 and the product’s own rule.
  • Customer names, emails, phone numbers and addresses are not kept from an order.
  • Nothing is uninstalled, and no app embed other than Liftable’s own is touched.

The permissions requested

  • read_orders
  • read_products
  • read_themes
  • read_shipping
  • read_discounts
  • read_customer_events
  • write_pixels
  • write_delivery_customizations
  • write_discounts

These are the permissions the connector asks the vendor for, as the vendor names them. The Connections page shows the same list on the row before you connect.

How to connect

  • Install from the Liftable sign-up or from the Shopify admin. Shopify shows the nine permissions on its own screen before anything is granted.
  • The app has been installed on Liftable’s own development store through this flow.

How often, and where the data lands

Orders arrive by webhook as they happen and are re-read for their costs every 15 minutes; shipping profiles, discounts and products are read on demand.

Questions

Can Liftable change my live theme?

No. It does not request permission to write themes, so it cannot. A page change can only be shown through Liftable’s theme app extension, a block you switch on in the theme editor, and only for a test you approved.

Does Liftable use Shopify Rollouts?

The adapter is built and the status is read, and it is not how Liftable tests today. Tests run through the theme app extension and Shopify Functions. Rollouts is Shopify’s own split-testing tool, and the comparison says where each fits.

What happens when I uninstall?

Shopify revokes access immediately and Liftable purges the store’s access token. Shopify then sends a shop redaction, which deletes the store’s data, including the screenshots from its scans.
