What is a heatmap?
A heatmap aggregates interactions across many sessions into a visual overlay on a single page, showing click density, scroll depth or attention. It answers where behaviour concentrates at a glance, and it deliberately discards the sequence and context that individual sessions carry.

In more detail
Heatmaps are best at two questions. Does anyone reach this content (scroll depth), and are people clicking something that is not a control (click density)? Both are hard to see any other way.
They are weakest when a page is personalised, responsive or long. The overlay flattens layouts that were never the same for two shoppers, and the resulting picture can be confidently wrong.
Key points
- Good for scroll reach and for spotting clicks on things that are not controls.
- Discards sequence and per-session context by design.
- Misleading on personalised or highly variable layouts.
