What is the mobile conversion gap?
The mobile conversion gap is the difference between the conversion rate on phones and on desktop for the same store. On many stores phones carry most sessions and convert at a lower rate, so a store-wide average is dominated by mobile volume while hiding problems that are specific to mobile.

In more detail
Part of the gap is genuine behaviour: phones are used for browsing and desktops for buying, and some of that will never close. The addressable part is mechanical: tap targets too small or too close, images not served at phone sizes, forms that bring up the wrong keyboard, sticky elements covering the add-to-cart button.
The diagnostic discipline is simple and widely skipped: never read a conversion metric without splitting it by device first.
Key points
- Split every metric by device before drawing conclusions.
- Some of the gap is real behaviour; the mechanical part is fixable.
- Common causes: tap targets, image sizing, keyboard types, sticky overlays.
