Cart and checkout conversion for Shopify brands
The cart is the highest-intent moment on the store, and the moment most Shopify themes handle worst. This page goes through the ways an order is lost between add to cart and payment, what the scan checks for each, and what happens after it finds one.

The cost arrives late
Unexpected extra cost is the most cited reason for abandoning a purchase in checkout research (Baymard Institute). On most stores the delivery price is first shown on the shipping step of checkout, after the shopper has typed an address. By then it lands as a penalty, not as a fact they priced in.
The same thing happens in reverse with a free-delivery threshold nobody mentions: a shopper a few pounds short would often add an item to clear it, but only if the cart tells them it exists.
The cart sends them away
An open discount-code field is a prompt. A share of shoppers who see one open a new tab to look for a code, and a share of those never come back. The ones who do often return with a code from a coupon site that costs margin you were not planning to give.
The scan reads the cart drawer and the cart page for the field, and crawls the coupon aggregators for live codes against your domain, so the finding comes with the list of codes a shopper would find.
The cart is slow or thin on a phone
A drawer that takes more than 600 ms to open after add to cart, or shifts the layout as it opens, reads as a site that might lose the order. Express payment buttons that sit below the fold on a phone are buttons most shoppers do not use, and typing an address and a card on a phone is where mobile checkouts go to die.
A cart with no line about returns or secure payment leaves a first-time buyer’s real question unanswered: is this store safe to buy from?
The checks that look for this
The free scan runs these on your own pages, desktop and mobile, and shows each finding with its evidence. Each check has its own page saying how to see the problem without installing anything.
Planned and not run by the scan yet: C7 (Checkout branding mismatch). The scan runs 35 of the 39 checks it defines.
What Liftable does about it today
What is live today. Liftable finds the opportunity and our founding-team programme implements and measures the first fix with you. Automated testing is not live on any merchant’s store yet.

- Shopify Function (discount)C3
Runs as a Shopify Function for discounts, and only for a test you have approved.
- Fix ticketC5
A fix ticket to the app’s support or to your developer, with the script time the scan measured. Liftable does not change or uninstall the app.

What you get
- Every cart and checkout finding on your own pages, desktop and mobile, with a screenshot and the evidence line a person can verify.
- The live discount codes a shopper would find for your store, if the discount field is open.
- A drafted change for each finding the product has a template for: a shipping line and policy link in the cart, a returns line, a threshold banner, express checkout surfaced.
- Once sessions and orders are connected, an estimated monthly range per finding, with the inputs, lookback and calculation shown.
- Measurement of the first fix with the founding team, sized before it starts and refused if your traffic cannot read it.
Who it is for
A good fit
- Shopify brands doing $1–20m a year with a cart drawer or cart page the theme controls.
- Teams who want to know which cart problem to fix first, not a list of everything.
Not the right tool
- Stores whose open question is what to charge for delivery or how to structure an offer: that is a pricing test, and Intelligems is built for it.
- Checkout itself on a non-Plus store, which Shopify controls and no app can restyle.
Questions
Does Liftable change my checkout?
No. Checkout is Shopify’s, and on a non-Plus store nothing can restyle it. Liftable’s checkout findings are about what the shopper learned before checkout (delivery cost, codes, trust) and about branding you set in Shopify admin.
How does Liftable put a shipping line in the cart without editing my theme?
Through its theme app extension: a block you switch on in the theme editor, which Shopify renders inside your theme without any theme file being written. It is one of the five trust and delivery fixes the extension covers today.
Will it tell me what my cart abandonment costs?
The free scan prints no dollar figure, because a crawl has seen no shopper and no order. Once your pixel and orders are connected, each finding gets an estimated monthly range with its inputs shown, and a fix is measured against a holdback rather than projected.
What about the discount field: can Liftable auto-apply a code?
The template for that finding applies the best live code automatically and collapses the field, and it runs as a Shopify Function for discounts. It only runs as a test you have approved, and no such test has run on a merchant’s store yet.
